Social Marketing

my most recent obsession, something that would combine my passion for change and my artistic side, something that would mobilize the masses with no need for proposals, failed projects and the continuous masking of that (and we can drop the jargon while we're at it)

here are a few of my favorite campaigns:
The Story of Stuff by Annie Leonard
Animals Save the Planet, by Animal Planet
UNHCR "spot the odd one out" poster, the poster that got me thinking about it all 3 years ago in Geneva.
Supersize-me, on fast food.

So the alternative is not so good after all

Was thinking today if it wouldn't be better to go work in the business sector...
the Economist tells me it isn't much better of an alternative

On Women

Feminist quotes, inspired by my recent participation in a 30 day training developing leadership skills for women working in the development field (and this I have yet to tell you about).

“Man is defined as a human being and a woman as a female — whenever she behaves as a human being she is said to imitate the male.” - Simone de Beauvoir

“Women have been taught that, for us, the earth is flat, and that if we venture out, we will fall off the edge.” -Author Unknown

“Some of us are becoming the men we wanted to marry.” - Gloria Steinem

“Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.“ -Cheris Kramarae and Paula Treichler

On bottom-up approaches

Go to the people:
live with them, learn from them
love them
start with what they know
build with what they have

but of the best leaders,
when the job is done,
the task accomplished
the people will say:
"We have done it ourselves."

- Lao Tzu

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before assuming what the people need or what they can't do, we should ask. The world is full of development fiascoes, the stories make me laugh at the all-knowing imperialist mentality.

Buddhist Economics

" Right Livelihood is one of the requirements of the Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path. It is clear, therefore, that there must be such a thing as Buddhist economics." - E.F. Schumacher
